Is Elon Musk trying to salvage his own business?

Finding something  interesting in the news other than topics on politics and virus outbreaks seems to be impossible so far this year, but Elon Musk, a South-African born American entrepreneur who founded Tesla and many other technology businesses, one of the most technologically advanced car brands specialising in electric cars, has said that AI (Artificial Intelligence) should be regulated better, even putting his own business Tesla at risk.

Artificial Intelligence is used a lot in new technology today e.g. autopilot. However there has been many incidents where people are claiming that the AI in Tesla’s are to blame, an accident that killed two, involving a Tesla on autopilot has created doubt in the technology, as a result of this Elon Musk is advising that it needs to be regulated better, which could have a huge effect on the sales of Tesla’s.

Musk also bought $10millon worth of Tesla shares on Valentine’s day, which has resulted in Tesla’s market share to rise above other competitors such as Volkswagen AG and Fiat. Could this be indicating that Elon is trying to save his own business? If people are really becoming sceptical about the technology the demand for the products will fall, no one wants a potentially dangerous car, do they?

So, is Elon Musk aiming to increase investment and save his business or simply try and increase profits for himself? Perhaps he is trying to create an even bigger name for himself. One thing that we can conclude is that he has confidence in his current technology so even creating doubt about AI doesn’t seem to knock it.
